Winners At AKKS Millennium Kenpo Karate Championship

Instructors and students from the Loreto College Kenpo Karate Schools in Dublin competed at the recent American Kenpo Karate Systems (AKKS) 'Millennium European Kenpo Karate Championships' in Plymouth, England. Under the direction of their instructors Alan Corrigan, Freda Roberts and Dermot O'Reilly, the squad won a total of 36 trophies, 14 plaques and eight first places. The squad were accompanied by long time black belts Maurice Mahon, Shay Paget and Barney Coleman, who also took the opportunity to celebrated their 30 year partnership at the event.

Dubliner Maurice Mahon, one of the first Irishmen to receive the rank of black belt in Kenpo Karate, was a special guest of honour at the recent three day 'Jersey 2000', a martial arts spectacular hosted by St. Helier-based instructor Roy McDonald, the International Kenpo Karate Association (IKKA) representative for the Channel Islands.
