In the spring of 1993 Mr Damien Tully joined Loreto College Kenpo Karate School, under the instruction of Mr Alan Corrigan and Mr Dermot O'Reilly. His motivation for starting in Loreto College stemmed from his father and the fact that his two cousins were training there and had given excellent reviews.

He would start training in the junior class and a number of years later progressed into the senior class where he remains to be one of the few that originated from the junior class.

At the young age of 14 he competed abroad at his first European Championships in Amsterdam. In the subsequent years he would put what he learned into action and achieved several European and International titles. Some of these include the 1999 European Championships in Dublin where he was crowned forms champion, the 2000 International European Championships where he won a first place for sparring beating a South African in the final. This was to be followed by a 2nd place for creative and later a gold medal with the Loreto College Fighting Team. In 2003 he travelled with the Loreto squad to the IKC in Boston where he would triumph in the creative form division and once again in the team forms division. Other achievements include a 1st place at the 2006 IKC in Utrecht for team form. In addition he has won countless National titles that include the Dublin Championships, All-Ireland Karate Championships and the National Team Championships. He is a regular member of the Loreto College Demonstration Squad and has participated in numerous demonstrations including those for charity.

In 2006 he was graded to 1st Degree Black Belt by the American Kenpo International Senior Council - President Tony Cogliandro, President of the Board of Directors Don Rodrigues, European Senior Council Directors Maurice Mahon, Shay Paget and Barney Coleman. The panel also consisted of AKI Senior Council members Mr Alan Corrigan, Mr Dermot O'Reilly, Ms Freda Roberts. Other notables present included Mr Martin Carey and Mr Eddie Cummins.

Mr Tully has participated in many seminars given by some of the most prominent Kenpoists in the world such as Mr Larry Tatum, Mr Huk Planas, Mr Tony Cogliandro, Mr Jeff Speakman and Mr Paul Dye. He is a regular contributor to the Irish Fighter and has written for local and national press. In addition he completed a Child protection awareness course with the Catholic Youth Care. He remains an active competitor and wishes to express his gratitude to his instructors who continue to teach and learn him of the art of Kenpo Karate.

Outside of his martial arts career, Damien is pursing a PhD in Bioinformatics with the Smurfit Institute of Genetics, Trinity College Dublin.
